Description: Instructor - Ben Miller. This class will explore and discuss the Energy Code for Indiana as well as enforcement within the local building jurisdiction of Evansville-Vanderburgh County. The class will include handouts and powerpoints including real world examples. Ben Miller is the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Building Commissioner. His goal is to teach the codes where all can understand the requirements. Ben is international code council certified in structural, electrical, plumbing, hvac, fire, building plan examanition and holds certified building offical certification.

Description: The class on Indiana Residential Code Chapters 3 and 4 will cover the building planning requirements of Chapter 3 with an emphasis on the seismic requirements that are unique for this part of the state. Minimum requirements for loads, transfer paths, location on lots and means of egress are the main focus of the study of this chapter. Also covered are the interior environment issues of ceiling heights, glazing, sanitation, and smoke alarms. The study on Chapter 4 will cover footings, foundation walls and foundation anchorage, also with an emphasis on the seismic issues of Vanderburgh County and the surrounding area. Craig Wagner is the Chief Building Inspector for the Columbia City/ Whitley County Planning and Building Department. He currently serves as coordinator for the Indiana Association of Building Officials' voting block of the State of Indiana's Residential Code Review Committee, which is developing the 2010 Indiana Residential Code. He serves on the association's Code Development Committee and was a member of an ad hoc committee for the 2003 Indiana Building Code. Mr. Wagner is certified by the International Code Council as a Combination Residential Inspector and has over forty years of construction industry experience as an inspector, contractor and manager of industrial, commercial, agricultural, and residential building projects.

Description: The class on Indiana Residential Code Chapters 5-11 is primarily focused on the framing of dwellings and will cover the seismic requirements that are present for this area. This class covers floor construction in Chapter 5 and wall framing in Chapter 6. Chapter 6's study will cover sizing of wall framing components, braced wall lines and wall bracing. Wall covering, roof system construction and roof coverings are covered in the study of Chapters 7-9. Chapter 10 covers chimney and fireplace construction and the section on Chapter 11 gives a brief overview of energy requirements. Craig Wagner - see above.
